CAN GREEN INVESTING BE PROFITABLE?
It survived the atomic bomb at Hiroshima and provided the first re-greening after the blast in 1945. It is the fastest growing plant on this planet. Its stands release 35% more oxygen than equivalent stands of trees. It has a tensile strength superior to mild steel and a weight-to-strength ratio surpassing that of graphite. It is a viable replacement for timber. It can be harvested in 3 years versus a minimum of 10 years for soft woods. It is harvested and replenished with no impact to the environment. It can be selectively harvested annually and is capable of complete regeneration without need to replant. It is an enduring natural resource and provides income, food, and housing to over 2.2 billion people worldwide.
It can yield pine 6 to 1 in biomass production. It is a great soil conservation tool preventing massive soil erosion. It can be eaten, made into fiber for clothing, it can be used in concrete reinforcement, and it can provide great livestock feed with foliage up to 22% protein, it can be machined into numerous forms of lumber.
It might be easier to compile a list of what it cannot be used for than what it is used for.
Of course with all these qualities it is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint and help in the fight against global warming.
But what is the amazing natural resource? If you haven't guessed already the answer is Bamboo!
But why should I be bringing this to your attention? Simply put because of the income generating investment opportunity that it provides.
Specifically, I am talking about timber grade bamboo that is used in the furniture, construction, flooring, fiber, charcoal, energy and bio-refinery industries. With by- products being edible shoots and cattle fodder.
